Sunday Session

I took the kites and buggy to Laurie Stanford reserve in Singleton this morning. Forecast for North-easterlies, light to moderate, increasing to moderate to fresh with gusts.

A gorgeous sunny day, but chilly to start, set up the 5m flow and put it through it's paces, the wind was pretty hit and miss, with a lot more miss!

Anytime I stepped anywhere near the buggy the kite would float gently to the ground! Did manage a couple of slow runs.

The forecast was for increasing winds so I stuck it out and was rewarded by about an hour or so of reasonable buggy action, with some reasonable length runs and some decent speed - though never anything record breaking!

Though I didn't use my harness and hadn't switched the GPS on. Overall well worth getting out and having a blast!

Ready to go...

After weeks, months maybe, of no buggying, there is a slight chance there is some wind tomorrow - it doesn't look much, but at least there is a chance of putting a kite up!

So I have inflated the tyres, checked the bolts and loaded everything into the car.

Now I am keeping my fingers crossed the wind blows and swings around a bit!

I know it's only a Peter Lynn Comp, but it's the only buggy I have got and I am feeling excited that I might have a blast in the morning!

Not kite related...

..but very exciting as we have started to book a summer holiday for January 2013.

We are flying to Sydney, then after a couple of nights there and hopefully doing the bridge climb, we will be picking up a couple of motor-homes and driving to Melbourne. We need two motor-homes as my Mother and Father-in-law are coming over from the UK and joining us.
The plan is then for a couple of nights in Melbourne, including Australia Day. Before flying back to sunny Perth.

I'm sure that I will be able to find some room for my 5m Ozone Flow for some static beach sessions!

Dixon Road Reserve

At the circus! But definitely a location that would work in a northerly...

You could race the cars on Dixon Road!

Wish List...

Sysmic S2 kite buggy

Peter Lynn Vapor 3.8m

Peter Lynn Prodigy Spreader bar

Full Face Helmet

Forearm/elbow protection
Some Wind!

Skid Lid..

...Bone dome? Whatever you want to call it, I am looking at getting a new helmet (another thing to add to the wish list!). Why?

My goal with the vapor is to start pushing my speed, I'm not after any world records (I am still riding a Peter Lynn Comp xr+) but want to go faster and with that comes increased risk of an OBE and I need to protect my rugged good looks!

At the moment I am using a 661 Dirtlid, this is a great helmet, comfortable, cool (as in not to hot) and does the job - it did do the job OBE. Time to get out there and try some for size...

Video - Seek and Destroy

I've been watching a few kite buggy videos recently to try and keep myself sane!

Vapor - First flight

I took the vapor over to the footie oval, near our house, on Wednesday to attach the lines and para-pack it ready for the first opportunity to fly it...

The wind was having a bit of a blow so thought I should have a little try -

What an awesome kite, fantastic construction, precise handling, quick through the air and turns, despite gusty lumpy conditions it felt stable and well behaved, with smooth power delivery – I can’t wait to try out in the buggy.

Definitely a Ferrari of kites. Love it!

...are amazing, I ordered my new vapor yesterday and it arrived this morning! I'm going to pick it up from my wife's work in a minute.

I have never known something come from over east so quickly! I highly recommend them and when I get the cash together for a 3.3m I know where I am getting it from...

I have decided to sell my Peter Lynn Core 3m, as I have just bought my first race kite and now think I need to back it up with another (3.5m ish) to cover the wind range of the core!

It is kite only, it is in excellent condition, a little bit dusty otherwise perfect and comes with the Peter Lynn rucksack. It is red, white and black. See it in action here -

between 28 & 37 seconds is me with the core doing my PB.

What kite...?

... Did Brian Holgate use to break the kite buggy speed record?

A Peter Lynn Vapor 2.7m

What kite...   have I just bought?

A Peter Lynn Vapor 2.7m

A Peter Lynn Vapor 2.7m!!!

My first step into the world of race-kites and seriously pushing my limits, probably will look at selling my 3m Core and getting a 2nd race-kite around the 3.3m size - but don't tell my wife!

Confused - Pansh Sprint

I have been looking at other options for a race-kite as my Blade money is burning a hole in my pocket! I have looked at the Pansh Sprint before, I have heard good things about these kites, but have always been concerned I maybe getting second best!

Now I am looking at them with renewed interest as I could probably get two of these for the price of a vapor! But am very confused about the pricing...

4m - $299
1.9m - $299
2.3m - $179
3.3m - $399
(all prices are US$)

Ideally I would like a 2.8m (which is only listed as part of a package with a Flux) and a 3.3m, but might as well buy a 4m as it is cheaper! I have contacted Pansh for some clarity!

Sunday 8 July 2012

Wanted!

Now I have sold my Blade I am now on the hunt for a race-kite (or two!), preferably a small(ish) Peter Lynn Vapor.

Saturday 7 July 2012

Sold

I have sold my 8.5m Blade III, it will be heading to Cairns and will hopefully get some use - I'm still thinking I may get a 2.7 or 3.5m vapor!

Life...

This week life has got in the way of any thoughts of kite buggying, my wife has been away at a conference in Sydney all week, so I have been a single parent...
I have been working school hours 9am 'til 3pm, I have cooked (which I normally do anyway!), I have cleaned (I guess I usually do my fair share), I have done the laundry (I cant send the girls to school with dirty undies), we have been to the orthodontist, the dog has been to the vets, when I get home today I will do the weeks food shopping!

So this is my first opportunity to think about the weekend and the possibility of buggying! I needn't have bothered - there is going to be some wind, but also some rain and the direction isn't any good for the site in Singleton and there is a circus on the other potential site.

But looking on the bright side my wife is going to owe me big time after her week in Sydney - flights, accommodation, expenses and of course childcare!
